The red design for Pentecost depicts a (very stylised)
descending dove to
which the response is the tongues of flame. As in all the antependia,
it is God's action which provokes the response from his creation. The seven flames embroidered in outline on the upper part of the antependium (right) may be taken to represent the seven churches to which the Book of Revelation is addressed. |
